The Center for Science and Environmental Education (CSEE), a unit of Delta State University, was founded in 2000 to provide science education and environmental education outreach services by DSU faculty and staff to residents, schools, and other organizations within the area traditionally identified as the Delta region of Mississippi. To accomplish this goal, CSEE has been charged with the responsibility of coordinating existing science education and environmental education programs offered by DSU and formulating and implementing new programs that address these areas. As additional funding becomes available, this will ultimately lead to development of a comprehensive, sustainable support system for precollege science and environmental education. The CSEE building is located on a 10-acre parcel of land approximately one-half mile south of Merigold, Mississippi. Property surrounding the building is currently being developed into an environmental studies area for use by students in the Delta.

Mississippi Service Area
As a relatively new entity, the CSEE is continuing to develop its core programming to meet the needs of its constituency in the Mississippi Delta. An early focus of CSEE activities has been development of programs that focus on improving science teaching in elementary schools in 19 counties (Bolivar, Carroll, Coahoma, Desoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Leflore, Montgomery, Panola, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, Washington, & Yazoo) in the northern Mississippi Delta.
